A relevant work during the bloody administration of Rodrigo Duterte in the Philippines, The House of/La Casa de/Ang Tahanan ni Bernarda Alba is a play that traces the crumbling of a family under the oppressive fist of the titular matriarch. It was Lorca’s final work before he disappeared during the Spanish Civil War.

The House of Bernarda Alba won awards, namely “Best Actress (Non-Musical)” for Gigi Escalante at the 2019 ALIW Awards and “Best Actress in a Featured Role” for Stella Cañete-Mendoza at the 2020 Philippine LEAF Awards.
